Who’s in Your Corner?

Did a name or two come to mind as you read the title? People you have no doubts about when it comes to their character, intentions, dependability, and their willingness to consider your best interest. These are the kind of people that you can say with a full heart that they are truly in your corner, walking out life with you and you mutually doing the same. We were created to be in community with others and to build faithful connections with people, so that we have the necessary support system to endure all phases of life. You want to ensure that you have what you personally deem as a quality group of individuals that surround you versus focusing on quantity. The old adage remains true that quality matters more than quantity. Some characteristics that quality connections embody include good spiritual fruit (patience, self-control, kindness, joy, etc.), they challenge you in healthy ways to help you grow, they are there in times of emergency and celebration, their words and actions align, and they honor who you are.

When life backs you into a corner or rushes in a tough season of transition, who can you honestly call for help? Who can you honestly call for wisdom and encouragement? Who can you call for solutions and resources? Maybe it is time that on a yearly to bi-yearly basis you perform a connection audit to determine which connections to continue to nurture, which connections need to come to a proper end, and which connections would need to be recategorized. The intent is to empower you to be deliberate about examining the quality of your connections and being aware of who has consistently been in your corner. This helps you to be mindful about who you are giving your precious energy, time, and reciprocity to. The people in your corner should essentially enhance your life and influence you in the best ways.
