Emotional Preparation

Preparation is a beautiful, somewhat muddled, and worthwhile process that primes us for our next phase. Emotional preparation does not receive the attention that it deserves and is one of the highest areas of preparation that should be intentionally nurtured. If you do not elevate your emotional intelligence, regulation, and health then you run the risk of squandering blessings or your elevation. The ability to emotionally withstand inevitable opposition when you arrive at new beginnings instills in you the fortitude to keep moving forward. We are humans created with emotions to guide us and to help us to remain humbly aware that we are meant to feel our way through life to fully experience it. By no means were we created to succumb to our emotions nor are we to be ruled by them.

Emotional preparation entails doing inner-work to examine how you respond to emotional triggers. Facing emotional wounds and strongholds. Identifying new ways to practice productive emotional regulation. Building emotional fortitude. No longer suppressing emotions and instead permitting yourself to feel them. Allowing yourself time to process uncomfortable/overwhelming emotions and so forth. You can begin to prepare by committing to a weekly journaling practice of responding to prompts that explore your current emotional state and the relationship with your emotions (prompts ex. What is an emotional trigger that causes me to feel anxious or overwhelmed? What is my default response to the trigger? What is my first conscious memory of experiencing this trigger? What is a healthier response to this trigger that I can put into practice?). From there, you can build upon your practices and incorporate the appropriate outside help from wise counsel that can amplify your emotional preparation. The purpose of implementing emotional preparation is to improve your emotional wellness to be ready when God answers your prayers, to be ready for the fruition of your dreams and next level, and to have the emotional bandwidth to conquer challenges/testing of your faith.
