All Things

Romans 8:28 NIV | “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Sometimes we need a timely reminder that all things are working together for our good. Emphasis on the two words, all things. That means that God takes every single thing and assembles them in a way where they become good for us. The understanding of why certain seasons or experiences happen typically does not become known until we are on the other side of them. When we experience break ups or disappointments they hurt our hearts, but if we pause and look for the good then we can receive the wisdom needed to carry us forward. I am not promoting “toxic positivity” or encouraging the suppression of real human responses and emotions when painful things happen. This is more of an optimistic reminder that whatever you are experiencing is not the end of the road for you and to embolden you to increase your strength to endure as God brings good out of it.

Let’s focus on the definition of all things. All is the whole of something or the entirety and thing is a nonspecific classification of an object or something. Thus, an interpretation of the verse is that God orchestrates goodness to be produced from the entirety of any situation you encounter because you love Him and have been called. Furthermore, reframe your perception to believe that God does not waste any experience and all things work to build you up for your purpose. The next time you face a disheartening experience, challenge yourself to perceive the good in it, seek to glean the wisdom from it, and lock in on the faith to believe that the outcome is fixed to always work for your good.
