Worthy of Expressing Yourself More
First and foremost - you deserve to be heard and your voice matters. If you have been taught or told otherwise, allow me to help you start your journey to expressing yourself more. There is a correlation between expressing yourself and the impact it has on your mental/emotional health. The title of this post is an affirmation that should be taken into consideration. Expressing yourself requires a level of vulnerability that most are not willing to tap into, but you will learn to appreciate the mental freedom it offers. There are many reasons as to why it is important to encourage people to express themselves because giving voice to the matters on your heart can prove to be cathartic. Give voice to your grieving process, the ways in which you want to be loved and cared for, and the overall state of your mental health.
You should express yourself more to free yourself of built up regrets or rejections. You should express yourself more because your voice and what you have to say is valid. You should express yourself more to help the people in your life understand what love, support, and care looks like for you. You should express yourself more to escape the endless self-talk that creates fear within you and stops you from fully living your dream life. You should express yourself more to release sadness, which creates space for joy to consume you. You should express yourself more to save your life and inspire someone else to keep living. You should express yourself more simply because you are worthy to be heard, to be considered, to be seen, and for your point of view to be valued.
There are an array of avenues to which you can use to express yourself. Take a small leap by starting a reflection journal that can help you reflect on your thoughts and feelings on a cadence that works for you (e.g., daily, weekly, bi-weekly). Seek a trusted mentor or companion that you instinctively trust with your inner-most thoughts. Turn to your parent(s) or a family member that makes you feel comfortable and loved. If you are having a major battle with a mental illness that persists, look to local or online resources for referrals to mental health professionals. Dance it out, write it out, sing it out, exercise it out, scream about it, channel it into creativity, laugh it out… whatever your method please do it with full authenticity. The goal is to encourage you to stop holding the world on your shoulders and begin the journey of internal freedom.
