The Importance of Edification

Edification, noun (ed-uh-fi-key-shuhn) | the instruction or improvement of a person morally, intellectually, spiritually, etc.; uplifted.

Your personal world should be surrounded by sources of edification that help you evolve and operate from your most elevated self. As a culture, we do not highlight the importance of edification enough and how much of a necessity it is to not only our survival but it enables us to thrive. Edifying God, myself, and my loved ones is held as a sacred and precious practice. The intention is to always leave people greater than I found them and edification drives that intention to be fulfilled. You probably know the difference between an uplifting vs. draining energetic lingering that remains after you part ways with an environment or person. Feeling uplifted, empowered, and elevated in some shape or form is a true indication that you received a portion of edification. Trust your spirit, it always knows!

Edification is important because it is the application of someone ‘filling your cup’, you pouring into them, and/or developing yourself through edifying practices. Your relationship with yourself is your first priority because your internal foundation is what shapes the perception of yourself and the world around you. Practicing self edification entails establishing spiritual disciplines, actively encouraging yourself, and instilling a vital aptitude to navigate life. Mutual edification is a sincere form of reciprocity that while someone builds you up, you in return build them up. This can be through the teaching of a new skill, helping each other turn a weakness into a strength, and praying together as an act of standing in faith. My belief is that the more edification that takes place on an individual and collective level throughout the world, the more we will live in an inspiring, compassionate, and joyful society. Let this be a call to action to practice edifying yourself and each person you encounter.

Joy Gem: Romans 14:19 NIV | Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
