Build Steadfast Foundations

Matthew 7:24-27 NLT | “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

If given the opportunity to build your dream home from the ground up, you would not willingly say yes to the contractor's proposal to build your house on a sand foundation. You would want your dream home to be able to withstand the test of time and changing of seasons. The same can be suggested for your internal, spiritual, and relational foundations. It is important that they have enduring foundations so that you can always return to their true essence when life is challenging. Internal foundation includes your relationship with yourself, self-perception, character, and personal values. Spiritual foundation is a composite of spiritual beliefs, practices, principles, and purpose. Relational foundations are your relationships with your spouse, family, friends, colleagues, etc.

First and foremost, your internal foundation should be the most solidified and consistently nurtured. With a steadfast internal foundation you will stand in who you are whenever someone seeks to invalidate you or project their personal judgements onto you. You will not waver in your inherent worthiness nor your self-love and respect because you continuously affirm who you are and stand in your personal power.

The strengthening of your spiritual foundation starts when you come into the understanding of who God is and resolve to remain faithful to developing your spiritual beliefs. You will face hardships in life that may seem insurmountable and spiritually depleting. However, your steadfast spiritual foundation empowers you to have hope, keep pressing forward, and to believe in a higher/all-knowing God to get through it. You know that you know, you can always turn to God in prayer (spiritual practice).

Relationships based on the foundation of love, support, intentionality, peace, and unwavering commitment are a cornerstone to enduring this marathon called life. Especially when you are pursuing and focused on fulfilling your highest purpose. Strong relationships will be tested but you can always return to the foundation to which it was built on to overcome the tests. The right relationships will pour good seeds into your purpose, internal and spiritual foundation, and overall well-being. A foundation is the base structure to which all things are built on, so build them with wisdom and the strength to endure

Joy Gem: Examine your internal, spiritual, and relational foundations to examine if they have fractures that need to be mended. The intention is to restore those fractures to cultivate a more steadfast foundation. You will know if there is a fracture in the foundation based on the fruit it is producing.
