Ask For What You Need

There are times when we have a need that we cannot fulfill on our own. Even though we have become more self-sufficient and individualistic as a culture, we may be required to ask for what we need from a source outside of ourselves. Be it from a loved one, colleague, mentor, and God (the greatest source of all). Many are hindered by the inability to give voice to their needs and to simply ask because of their personal experiences that may have painted their views on interdependency. God created us to exist in a healthy state of interdependence so that we can encourage, bless, help, fellowship, and provide for the needs of each other. As long as you have a need within reason that another person can help you fulfill then go ahead and ask. To be clear, it is God who already knows your needs (Matthew 6:8) and delights in you asking Him directly for what you need because with Him all things are possible even outside of reason.

Perform a personal needs assessment by asking yourself what are your primary needs right now and who can help you fulfill them. Do you have a need for quality time with a close friend to feel a sense of connection? Do you have a need for personal quiet time each day to decompress after work? Do you need more help around the house from your spouse in order to feel less overwhelmed with tasks? Do you need a hug from a loved one to feel cared for? Do you need to take a vacation to recharge mentally and physically? Do you need to have a hard yet honest conversation with someone in order to get something off of your chest? Do you need to figure out a better way to take care of yourself to start improving your well-being? Do you need God to divinely intervene and provide a way for you to overcome something? Push past the fear or resistance to ask for whatever your highest needs are in this current season. You are not a burden or a bother. You are not weak or insufficient. You are a delicate human with needs and in order to get them fulfilled, you may be required to speak up and have faith your needs will be met.
