Refocus

Typically, my focus is firmly placed on focusing forward or being focused on what I deem are the proper things for me. A week ago, I was hit with a flood of moments of rumination that took my focus off track; which led to feelings of emotional overwhelm and anxiousness. I immediately went into retreat and reflection mode to understand the root cause of why these sudden waves of rumination were hitting me. You can only move through something if you take the time to sit with it and process it. By the end of my reflection I made a couple of resolves within myself and most importantly that it was time to refocus. Truth is, the sudden wave was an indication that there were some things within me that I needed to be aware of in order to fully process them and accept what is. This was hitting me for my good, although it did not feel good at the time. It also served as a reminder that I need to shift my focus to what matters most in this season and to things that are in my control.

One thing about life is that there is a possibility that this experience will cycle back around at some point and it is wise to learn how to properly navigate it now. Wisdom has taught me to be still in moments of overwhelm to get down to the why then move my body to transcend the energy. Movement is always my go to form of catharsis, works every time. Examine your focus by reviewing where you extend your mental, emotional, and physical capacity to the most. Identify the areas of focus that are unproductive and are no longer serving you in the best way. Refocus by determining what matters the most and what is the best use of your time. For example, say you discover that you spend a lot of time focusing on a regret due to a mistake you made in the past; which impedes on your mental and emotional capacity. Refocus by facing the mistake head on, express self-forgiveness out loud, and write down the lesson learned to glean the wisdom from the experience. There is power in being intentional about what you focus on, so refocus as many times as you need to ensure you are forging ahead and giving your precious energy to what matters most.
