Deepen Your Self-Awareness [Personal Joy Zone]

The Oxford dictionary defines self-awareness as conscious knowledge of one's own character, feelings, motives, and desires. Expanding on the definition to include the ability to practice knowing yourself to the highest capacity and operating wholly from this awareness. Deepening your self-awareness can help you improve the relationship you have with yourself, aid in your ability to practice social awareness, and ultimately guide your self development needs. It is important to know your true intentions, your character strengths and weaknesses, identifying your feelings and how to properly process them, and why you are compelled by your desires. The practice of self-awareness is in accord with improving the relationship you have with yourself by providing deeper insights about the core of how you perceive yourself and the world around you.

The purpose of bringing this topic to the forefront is to help inspire people to take a deeper look within and to opt into getting to know themselves. We dedicate time and extend curiosity to learn more about others, especially those we are in a platonic or romantic relationship with. Why not dedicate more time to deepening your self-awareness, your central wants/needs, and figuring out how to better love yourself. A straightforward starting place is to spend time disconnected from external stimuli to indulge in self reflection with a journal in hand. Write down 5 words that describe your core characteristics and add context as to why the words clearly define you. Examine your feelings to determine if you have a healthy way of allowing them/processing them. Identify the motives behind your default (second nature) responses, reactions, and/or actions. Write out your sincere heart’s desires to get candid about your intentions. The wisdom of having a deep self-awareness adds richly to every aspect of your life.
